But also Australia has there own celebrations that they celebrate themselves like, Australia day, Melbourne cup and Eureka Stockade.HistoryThe first person who discovered Australia was an englishman called William Dampier in 1688. But then in 1770 a british sailor named Captain James Cook found a piece of land on the east coast of australia. He named it New South Wales and said that It was For British citizens.  CapitalAustralia's Capital is Canberra, Canberra has forest’s all around it. Canberra’s focal point is  Lake Burley Griffin, that has many sailboats and kayaks in it. On the lake shore is a modern parliament house and Museums as well as a National Gallery.ConclusionAs you can see, Australia has a long history and also has it’s own Culture and Traditions. If you would like to find out more about Australia, there are some books that you can find like 30 Days In Sydney, Claiming A Continent and more.

Art

Last Term on Matariki Day Te Ngahere and Te Maunga were designing koru and kowhaiwhai Patterns to learn the meaning of them. The first thing we had to do is sketch the koru and kowhaiwhai patterns on a piece of paper. We then got to use metallic paint to make our art look colorful. We then waited for them to dry. After they had finished drying we had to go over the pencil with Vivid, here is my amazing art.

Matariki Day

Last week on Thursday Paihia School had a family day to celebrate Matariki. We got to do fun things such as planting trees, playing fun activities and doing art in class, and also at lunchtime we had a big shared lunch with our families and teachers. But even before we had lunch, some people even managed to get up early at about 5.00am in the morning and went to see the Matariki stars. Then about 20 minutes later the people that went to see the stars were lucky enough to get a delicious breakfast from our wonderful teachers. It was so amazing on Thursday.

A few weeks ago Te Ngahere and Te Maunga got to design our very own Fidget spinner art. We were learning to use space, crayon and dye. We used a big piece of A3 paper to draw our fidget spinner art. We had drawn our fidget spinner art so we could match it with our Fidget spinner writing. But it was quite tricky to make the fidget spinner art because there would be lines that were smaller than the others and circles that were bigger than the others.

Recount Making Ice Cream

On Friday Te Ngahere got to make Ice Cream if we had 100% right on our Learning Plans. Then on Monday we had to write a Recount on how we made it. We had to work in pairs, and I worked with Hope.

19/6/17
WALT: Use the correct structure of a Recount and metaphors.
Title:Making Ice Cream

Last week on Friday, Te Ngahere made some tasty Vanilla Ice Cream. We had to work in pairs, I worked with Hope.

This is how we made the vanilla Ice Cream. The first thing we had to do was get ½ a cup of cream and pour it into a plastic bag, we then added 2 tablespoons of sugar into the bag and then added 2 teaspoons of vanilla essence.

Then we had to get an even bigger plastic bag and then added Ice and 6 tablespoons of salt into it. After we did all of that, we had to take them outside and Shake them fast until they get thick.

After we had finished shaking them, Alexsis and Freya took them up to the staff room and put them in the fridge. We then got to eat them at lunch (YUCK). The Ice Cream was an ocean, because all the salt from the big bag had gotten on the outside of the little bag.
