Yesterday in Te Ngahere Whaea Gina came in to talk to us about fast food restaurants. We talked about healthy and unhealthy hearts, then she showed us the food labels with the amount of fat that you receive from each in little bottles. The ones that Whaea Gina recommended for us to eat are Subway, Sushi, sometimes butter chicken or going to the shop and buying some healthy food. The ones that she didn’t recommend for us to eat were Mcdonalds, KFC, Carl's Jr and Wendy’s. Did you know that Carl's Jr is the most unhealthy restaurant in New Zealand? There are 14 teaspoons of fat with each burger and chips. Next time someone offers me junk food like KFC, I might refuse to eat it.

Tecnology
For the past few weeks Te Ngahere has been doing Technology, our WALT was to create a useful product for selling or for our classroom. Boombe, Keekee and I created 3 kitchen spice racks that could hold things like spices, salt, pepper etc. My favourite part of making this product was the sanding part because I liked the way it turned out and made such a difference. I think that the hardest part measuring where the stick had to go because they all had to be the EXACT same!!! I think our product turned out awesome and we can’t wait to make something like this again!!!

Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori week
For the past couple of days the whole of Paihia School celebrated Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori week by doing Rotations. There were ten activities being held by teachers but each group only got to do nine and miss one. There were two leaders per house group and then there were some house groups that were combined. I really enjoyed Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori and I can’t wait for this event to happen again.

Technology
For the past couple of weeks Te Ngahere have been doing technology. Our teacher Mr Lindsay brought in all of his tools into class and we got to decide what we could make. We used pieces of pallets and timber to make whatever we wanted, and the maximum amount of timber we could use was 6 pieces. My group and I decided that we could make spice racks to add to our class koha kitchen. I think my group and I did well at sanding the wood/pallets with the belt and orbital sander. I think I could have done better measuring the wood in a faster amount of time. I really enjoy doing technology and I hope this could happen all the time.

Maths goals
For the past two weeks Te Ngahere has been setting their maths goals for term three. We had to add what we have achieved and what we need to learn next. The goals that we had to pick were 2 knowledge, 2 addition and subtraction and 1 algebra. What I think I have done well is that I chose suitable goals for myself to learn, and I don’t think I have to do anything better next time.

Rocky Shore
Last term Te Ngahere and Nga Motu went down to the beach and looked at the rocky shore life. We found starfish, a huge crab, shrimps, hermit crabs and many more. Te Ngahere had to pair up with someone that was from Nga motu, and my buddy was Jhaylen-Marie. I think that was very fun going to the beach with the teina, and hope we do that again sometime.

Bay Bush Action
Last week in Te Ngahere we had some Bay Bush Action members (Stella and Brad) come in and talk to us about the Ngahere and how our school can become the first pest free school in New Zealand. We all talked about the pests and threats to our native and endemic birds and they also showed us traps that they make to kill the pests. They gave us ten rat traps to set up all around the school and we have nothing so far. I enjoyed learning about the bush.

Moment in time
Last week in Te Ngahere, we made a piece of descriptive writing about the forest. Our learning intention was to use present tense verbs and have descriptive language, I really enjoyed writing about the forest because I think I described it really well. Next time I think I should work on getting allot more writing done because I had plenty of time to finish. This is my draft copy.
Moment in time
The bright yellow sun gazing towards the ground as you explore the beautiful interest and discovering new things around the forest. The clouds gathering around as the water starts to drizzle down to the ground. The colorful flowers blooming as the canopy of trees are swaying side to side. The bees buzzing around while the birds are chirping high in the sky. The wind blowing as you feel it tingling your back from how cool it feels. The smell of the autumn breeze blowing through your nostrils. Curiously, you continue to wonder on through the mysterious path of gravel.

Healthy Echosystem
In Te Ngahere we were working on a piece of explanation writing about “What makes a healthy ecosystem”. Our learning intention was to use the correct structure to write and explanation. I think I did really well at how I described the four elements but I think I need to work on completing it more faster.
What Makes A Healthy Ecosystem
A healthy ecosystem is made up of inorganic matter and organic matter. Inorganic matter is something that is non living like water, sun, air, energy, sand and nutrients. Organic matter are living elements like kina, crayfish, seaweed and sea creatures. All ecosystems must have producers, consumers decomposers and inorganic matter in order to keep the ecosystem healthy.
Producers make the food for consumers like for example, kelp. Then the consumers will eat the producers to collect the energy that they get from the kelp.
Next, the decomposers take the nutrients from the dead sea creatures and restart it all from the beginning and give the nutrients back to the producers.
Ecosystems are very fragile and cannot cope with very big change within the weather. For example, if the kina barrens
keep on multiplying. Then the ecosystem will become unbalanced and will mess up the entire food chain.

Food Chain
For the past couple of weeks, Te Ngahere has been working on animations that include food chains and Ecosystems. We were learning to make connections between different things we view to create new learning. We had to work in pairs and my buddy was Tayla, what I think we should've done better was, to explain more detail about the animales. But I think we did very well and I hope you enjoy our animation.

Missy is......
This week in Te Ngahere we have been learning to use metaphors in our poems to describe ourselves. Our WALT was to Use language features appropriately showing a developing understanding of effect. This is my first draft and I think I did well with comparing myself with other things. What I enjoyed the most was that I found it quite challenging but I got there at the end. I think what I can be able to do better next time is to write more descriptive words.
Missy is….
Missy is….
Missy is a marshmallow gentle and sweet,
Missy is a koala soft and cuddly,
Missy is a Kauri tree looking after the little bushes,
Missy is a stray yelping for help,
Missy is a Jeep hurtling through the bushes,
Missy is a bull actively charging at the introdures

Pepeha
For the past couple of weeks Te Ngahere has been working on our visual pepeha. Our WALT was to introduce ourselves and our whanau. The purpose of this was to know who we are and were our ancestors came from. I enjoyed learning how to pronounce my whole pepeha. I think I did well at putting my pepeha in the right place and in the right order.
